Where industrial history meets an ochre shore

Thiorichia is easily the most surreal beach destination on Milos, where a pristine pebble shore shares space with the grand, haunting ruins of an abandoned 1930s sulfur mine. The entire canyon and surrounding coastline are heavily saturated with natural minerals, staining the earth and sand in brilliant, expressionistic brushstrokes of sulfur-yellow, deep rust, and vibrant orange.

The beach offers a striking blend of industrial history and natural beauty, with old iron tracks, stone-hewn warehouses, and rusted machinery sitting right at the water’s edge. Reaching this remote eastern outpost by land requires a punishing journey down a rugged dirt track. Approaching by sea is infinitely more elegant, allowing travelers to glide into the mineral-rich bay and step directly into an open-air museum where the golden-hued cliffs meet the deep indigo of the Aegean.
